TN education commissioner visits Farmington during statewide tour

The Germantown News

Tennessee Education Commissioner Candice McQueen visited Farmington Elementary last Tuesday as part of her Classroom Chronicles tour, which heavily focuses on the new statewide Read to be Ready initiative.
Read to be Ready is a plan the state adopted to ensure students are reading at a proficient level by the time they are exiting third grade. According to the state education department, only 43 percent of Tennessee students are reading at a proficient level at the end of third grade.
McQueen also said Tennessee just recently submitted its new federal plan—a revised version of No Child Left Behind—called ESA, and said they will be implementing that plan July 1.

“So I encourage you to get to know as much about the new school accountability model and the line back to district accountability,” McQueen said.
