Editor’s Note: This is the fourth
installment of a continuing series on the subject of coin values, collecting
and trends in precious metals, beginning with basic treatments of the
subject. The series by this coin
collection appraiser will build in detail over time. Stay tuned.
In the first three installments, we discussed the
foundational basics of coin collecting and coin valuations. There unfortunately exists a fifth column in
coin collecting and investment, namely, counterfeiting. Though it is not new, the practice is more
prolific and casts a wet blanket on the hobby to some degrees, particularly for
the novice or intermediate participant.
See the April 5 edition of the paper for the complete column by contributor David Yawn.
