The Tennessee Great War Commission (TGWC) will be holding a
ceremony April 8 to honor 100 years since the US entered World War I after
President Woodrow Wilson issued a declaration of war.
The ceremony will be held in front of the Doughboy Statue at
Overton Park, said commission member Andy Pouncey. The ceremony is scheduled to
start at 10 a.m.
Pouncey said Germantown’s history surrounding WWI is
interesting in that the city changed its name to Neshoba on May 15, 1917 until
April 4, 1922 because of “anti-German sentiment.”
See the April 5 edition of the Germantown News for the complete story by Rebekah Yearout.
