GERMANTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT WEEKLY ACTIVITY REPORT April 7 to 13

Friday, April 7
Crimes 
Walls were spray painted in the parking garage stairwell at 7700 Poplar Avenue at 7:47 a.m.
The victim was contacted via telephone in an attempted scam. The complaint originated in the 2400 block of Windy Oaks Drive at 2:04 p.m.
An adult was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop at Forest Hill Irene Road and Winchester Road at 3:38 p.m.
Debit card information was used to make fraudulent purchases in other jurisdictions at 7:42 p.m. The complaint originated from the 2600 block of Southmore Cove.
An adult was arrested for taking beer and groceries from a business in the 7700 block of Farmington Boulevard without paying for them.

A vehicle struck a utility pole causing possible injuries at Poplar Avenue and South Germantown Road at12:25 a.m.
Two vehicles collided at Wolf River Boulevard and Riverdale Road at 10:05 a.m.
Two vehicles collided at West Street and Poplar Pike at 2:05 p.m.
Two vehicles collided at Poplar Avenue and Exeter Road at 5:10 p.m.
A vehicle struck deer at Johnson Road and Garner Woods Cove at 8 p.m.

Saturday, April 8 
Crimes
Two juveniles were arrested for possession of marijuana during a traffic stop at Riverdale Road and Magnolia Ridge at 2:16 a.m.
A purse was taken from a vehicle at 8000 Wolf River Boulevard at 7:01 p.m.
An adult was arrested for possession of cocaine during a traffic stop at West Street and North Street at 7:06 p.m.
Debit card account information was used in a fraudulent transaction at 7640 Poplar Avenue at 8:34 p.m.
A mailbox was damaged in the 3100 block of Kenney Drive at 9:21 p.m.
Debit card account information was used in fraudulent transactions at 7735 Farmington Boulevard at 9:44 p.m.

Two vehicles collided at Farnifold Drive and Poplar Avenue at 6:15 p.m.

A trailer was taken from the parking lot at 8569 Cordes Circle at 8:27 a.m.
The victim was threatened by a co-worker via telephone at 7616 Poplar Avenue at 12:33 p.m.
A victim received harassing text messages from an acquaintance in the 2300 block of Windy Oaks Drive at 5:58 p.m.
Two juveniles were arrested for possession of marijuana in the 2400 block of Howard Road at 8:14 p.m.

The victim is receiving harassing text messages from a relative in the 2500 block of Rosehaven Street at 10:56 a.m.
An adult was arrested for taking a family member's vehicle without permission in the 8000 block of Cavershamwood Lane at 11:30 a.m.
The victim received three forged checks in an attempted scam in the 2800 block of Port Charlotte Drive at 2:30 p.m.

State leaders urge adults, schools to watch youth mental health

Bill Haslam, Tennessee Education Commissioner Candice McQueen and Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Commissioner Marie Williams urged adults and schools to stay vigilant of children’s mental health.  While May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, May 4 is specifically set aside as National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. OPINION: For Sunshine Laws to work, BMA should vote to record all sessions

During last week’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, I was glad to see the vote was unanimous in favor of taking up a discussion at the May 8 meeting to vote on recording BMA executive sessions.  As one person pointed out during the public comments portion of the meeting, it is hard to hear what’s being discussed at the executive sessions because not everyone has an individual microphone, and there’s no way for the public to review what was said. Although I understand why Alderman Owens said he supported recording the sessions, but hesitated to pile more work on the city clerk in terms of producing more minutes, I do think the city should, at some point, keep minutes from the sessions. Past presidents of Suburban Garden Club prepare Club for upcoming flower show

“Horse and Garden” The Flora and Fauna of Germantown, Tennessee The Suburban Garden Club held its March meeting at the Memphis Botanic Garden to accommodate the large number of designs and arrangements that were used as correct examples for the club’s flower show on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.   The show will be held at the Germantown Country Club from one to four in the afternoon.   It is free and open to the public.   Barbara Armstrong, Nancy Klepper and Lucy Wilkinson created and provided the designs for the flower show demonstrations entitled “Alignment, Cadence, and Conformation.” Suburban members appreciated the clever terminology for the class as being perfect for an equestrian-themed flower show. They instructed the members on the major Divisions of Design beginning with floor arrangements that must be at least five feet tall to hanging miniature designs that cannot be more than five inches high.   All designs must represent a designated equestrian theme such as:
