The City of Germantown soon will start work on the Streetscape project, which focuses on the Central Business District and Old Germantown.
A “streetscape” is an area defined by certain logistic and decorative additions to a typical city street, such as medians, ornamental lighting, outside furnishings (such as benches and garbage cans), landscape planters, broad sidewalks, on-street parking, bicycle lanes, narrow traffic lanes, textured turn lanes and street presence from buildings.
Director of Community and Economic Development Cameron Ross said the city held multiple public meetings last summer to get residents’ input on what they would like to see done as far as improvements to the CBD (at the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Germantown Road) and Old Germantown. Working with designers and traffic experts who looked at the needs of each particular district, the city put a plan into place for both areas.
