Those who have driven by Riverdale Elementary School have likely wondered when the project will be complete. Germantown Municipal School District reports that the project is on schedule and has reached 75% completion. Most of the exterior work has been completed, including roofing, brickwork, masonry and HVAC units.  Glass work for windows and storefront glass is underway.  The building interior is taking shape also. Drywall work is nearing completion.  Soon flooring, painting, and installation of tile, lockers, and bleachers will begin.
Built for a full capacity of 800 students, Riverdale currently houses 1,200 students. For more than 17 years, this overage of students has been accommodated by 22 portable classrooms located behind the school building. Following several meetings with stakeholders, which included Riverdale School administrators, teachers, parents, and other community experts, original plans for the school expansion were fine tuned. What began as a plan to simply replace the portables with brick and mortar classrooms evolved into a space that includes a full science lab, art studio with space for a kiln and a band room with built-in instrument storage and private practice rooms.  Abundant natural light has been factored into the design as well as additional restrooms for faculty and a new conference room providing a place for meetings with parents.
Construction is scheduled for completion in May. A live video feed allows residents to check on the project online at https://app.oxblue.com/open/res/addition.
